Exporting your airline's data

This article explains the ways to download your airline's data: everything in one ZIP file, the setup as a JSON file, and the activity log as a spreadsheet.

Export everything (owner only)

  1. In the staff menu, open Ownership.
  2. In the Take your airline's data card, press Export everything.

You get one ZIP file named after your airline and today's date. It contains:

  • setup.json: hubs, the airports you use, fleet, routes, ranks and SimBrief airframes. It can be imported into another airline.
  • pilots.csv: pilot ID, name, status, whether they are staff, hub, join date, hours, points and flights.
  • pireps.csv: every PIREP with pilot, flight, airports, aircraft, date, status, time, distance, fuel, landing rate, points, source and network.
  • bookings.csv: bookings with pilot, flight, aircraft, status and when they were made.
  • events.csv: your events.
  • awards.csv: awards given to pilots.
  • application-answers.csv: answers to your join-form questions.
  • activity-log.csv: the staff activity log.
  • README.txt: a short description of the files.

The CSV files open in any spreadsheet program. Pilots' email addresses are never included: they belong to the pilots.

Every export is recorded in the activity log.

Export the setup as JSON

Staff with the Import and export airline data permission can download just the setup.

  1. Open Staff → Import.
  2. In the Export as JSON card, press Download followed by your airline's file name, for example my-airline.json.

The file holds hubs, the airports you use, the fleet (with liveries and SimBrief airframes), routes (with aircraft types, tags and dates) and ranks. Pilots and their data aren't included, and neither are charter flights.

Use it in another airline

On the other airline's Staff → Import page, use From a Vaeroly JSON export. Choose the file and press Preview, check what was found, then press Import this into that airline.

Existing aircraft, routes and ranks are updated, not duplicated. Nothing is deleted. Files can be up to 3 MB.

This is also a handy backup before big changes to your routes or fleet.

Download the activity log

Staff with the Activity log permission can download it on its own.

  1. Open Staff → Activity log.
  2. Filter by person, kind of action or dates if you like.
  3. Press Download CSV.

The file lists the time (UTC), who did it, their email, the action and the details, for the filters you chose.

Excel files

Everything that downloads as CSV also comes as Excel (.xlsx): Download Excel next to Download CSV on the activity log, Excel next to the logbook's CSV and PDF on My PIREPs, and one Excel file with a sheet per table inside the owner's export. The CSV import on Staff → Import and the logbook import on the Ranks page also take an Excel file: its first sheet is read, with the same columns as the CSV.

Your own data as a pilot

Every pilot can download their own data in the Your data card on their Profile page. That's separate from the airline export.
