Your airline's look: logo, your own pages and dashboard blocks

This article explains how to give your crew centre your airline's look: a logo and banner, pages and links of your own in the menu, and blocks of your own on pilots' dashboards.

Your colour, name and description are on the Basics tab of Staff → Airline settings → Settings (Brand colour and Description). Everything else here needs an optional feature, which you turn on in Staff → Airline settings → Optional features (that takes the permission Switch new features on or off).

Logo and banner

Turn on Branding (under Airline running). Then open Staff → Airline settings → Branding. You need the permission Airline settings and the operations key.

  • The logo shows in the menu, on your public page and in the airline directory. Square works best; it's shown up to 512 px. Without a logo, your ICAO code on your colour is shown.
  • The banner sits behind the heading of your public page. Make it wide (about 3:1); it's shown up to 1920 px.

Vaeroly doesn't store image files. To set either one:

  1. Put the image somewhere on the web: your website, or Google Drive shared with "Anyone with the link".
  2. Paste its https link into Image link and press Save link.

The link is checked once when you save it. It must lead to a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF image of at most 5 MB (SVG isn't accepted). If the check fails, the page says why and the old image stays. After that, pilots' browsers load the image straight from your link, so keep it there. You can check about a dozen links a minute.

Press Remove logo or Remove banner to take it off. A logo or banner uploaded before links-only is marked uploaded before links-only and is still shown until you paste a link to replace it.

With Branding on, emails about your airline carry your colour and are sent as "Your Airline via Vaeroly". A logo you set by link isn't put in emails: the mail program would load it from your image host, which would then see when and where each person opened their email. With Branding on, pilot certificates also carry your logo.

With Branding on, the Your pages card on the same Branding page adds up to 20 pages and links. They show in the menu in a group named after your airline, under Overview. Use them for a hub guide, how to join, standard procedures, or a link to your Discord or liveries.

To add one, fill in New page and press Publish page:

  • Title: the name in the menu (up to 80 characters).
  • Address: the end of the page's web address, /p/…, in letters, numbers and dashes. Leave it empty to make it from the title. Each page needs its own address.
  • Order: lower numbers come first in the menu.
  • Link (optional): with a link, the menu item opens it in a new tab, and the text isn't needed. The page's own address shows where the link leads, with an Open the link button.
  • Menu icon: the small picture next to the title.
  • Text: the page itself, written in Markdown: ## Heading, **bold**, - list item and [a link](https://…). Up to 30,000 characters.
  • Members only: only your pilots and staff see it in the menu. A visitor who opens its address is asked to sign in, and someone signed in who isn't your pilot doesn't find it.

A page needs either text or a link. If something is wrong when you save, the page says what, and what you typed is kept.

To change a page, click it in the list, edit it and press Save. View opens it, and Delete removes it.

If Branding is turned off, your logo, banner and pages stop showing, but they are kept for when you turn it on again.

Dashboard layout and blocks

Dashboard layout is on for new airlines (under Community in Optional features). Open Staff → Community → Dashboard layout. You need the permission News and NOTAMs.

The default order

Default order lists the cards on pilots' dashboards: community goals, events, next flight, recent flights, NOTAMs, your numbers, statistics, live flights, and your blocks. Move them with the ↑ and ↓ buttons and press Save order.

Pilots can hide cards and rearrange their own dashboard with Customise your dashboard. Pilots who arranged their own dashboard keep it when you change the default; Reset to the airline's layout on their dashboard takes them back to yours. New blocks are added at the top of every dashboard, so pilots see them.

Add a block

A block is a card of your own on the dashboard: a new schedule, a recruitment drive or a welcome message. Fill in Add a block and press Add block:

  • Title (up to 80 characters) and Text (Markdown: **bold**, - list item, [a link](https://…); up to 5,000 characters).
  • Image link (optional): a full https address. The image is loaded from there; it isn't uploaded.
  • Shown until (optional), in UTC. Leave it empty to keep the block up.
  • Who sees it: Every pilot, pilots from a rank and above, or pilots based at one hub.

Your blocks are listed under Your blocks with who sees them and until when. Click one to edit it and press Save, or Delete it. A block that has ended no longer shows on dashboards, but stays in the list (marked "ended") until you delete it. An airline can have up to 20 blocks, ended ones included.
