EFB checklists

Some airlines give each aircraft type a checklist you can tick on your phone, a tablet or the website while you fly. It follows the flight phase by phase, from Preflight to Secure.

Using the checklist

  1. Book a flight. Open the EFB's Checklists tab, or My flights → Checklists on the website. It shows the checklist for the aircraft type you booked.
  2. Tap the phase you're in (the first one not finished opens by itself). Each line is a challenge and its response: tap the line to tick it.
  3. When every item of a phase is ticked, the phase is completed and gets a green tick. Next phase takes you on.

Good to know:

  • Your ticks are saved for this flight. Tick on your phone and the website shows the same, and the other way round. The page checks for changes every 15 seconds while it's on screen.
  • No connection? Keep ticking: your ticks stay on the device and are sent when the connection is back.
  • Some items tick themselves. An item marked "Ticks itself" is ticked when ACARS sees that state in your flight, for example the gear down, the flaps out, the landing lights or the beacon on, the parking brake set or released, the engines running. It only happens once the flight is in that phase: a landing item doesn't tick from the gear being down at the gate. If your aircraft or add-on doesn't report that switch, tick it yourself. Untick an item and it stays unticked.
  • Your version stays. If staff change the checklist during your flight, you keep the version you opened.
  • After you file, the checklist can't change. Your PIREP shows "Checklists completed: n of m phases". Some airlines give bonus points when every phase was completed, those before the touchdown before landing; the airline's scoring rules say so.

Other types' checklists are listed under the checklist, to read before a flight.

For staff

Turn on EFB checklists (Airline settings → Optional features). Staff with the Fleet permission write the checklists on Staff → Operations → Checklists.

  • Start from a ready-made checklist. Vaeroly has generic checklists for the A320, 737-700, 737-800, 777-300ER, A350-900, E175, ATR 72 and Cessna 172. Copy one and change it to match your procedures. They are written for simulator flying, not for real-world use.
  • Or write your own with New checklist: a name, the aircraft type's ICAO code, and the items of each phase. One item per line, the challenge and the response with | between them, for example Parking brake | Set. Leave a phase empty to skip it.
  • Items that tick themselves. Add a third part with a condition: Parking brake | Set | parking_brake_set. The page lists the conditions. They read the lines ACARS writes in the flight log when a switch or lever changes, so they work with the ACARS pilots already have.
  • One checklist per type is in use; the others are drafts. Saving makes a new version, and flights already under way keep the one they opened.
  • Delete removes a checklist no flight has opened. One that flights used is kept as a draft, so their PIREPs still show their phases.

Shared library. On a checklist's page, Share in the library lets every airline on Vaeroly copy it, with your airline named as its source. Share only checklists you wrote or may pass on. Stop sharing takes it out; copies already made stay with the airlines that made them. Shared library on the Checklists page lists what others share, with Copy next to each.

Bonus points (optional). With the switch on, Scoring → Bonuses and other points has Checklists completed: points for a flight whose every phase was completed, the phases before the touchdown before it. It is 0 (off) until you set it, and counts only for flights filed after that: older PIREPs keep their score.
